Happy New Year’s Eve

As we get ready to turn over the page to a new calendar, allow me to offer some heartfelt wishes to you all.

First, may your coming year be filled with enough… Enough food to eat, enough happiness, enough comfort, enough friends, enough… whatever you need for a good year.

May those of you who are writers have great book sales and keep writing.

May you have good health – mentally, physically, and emotionally.

And here’s to a great new year.

Coming Jan 29: Found Among the Stars

Will finding out the truth about their past bring two people together or tear an entire world apart?

Even in outer space there are dictators. Eiko, a crystal hunter for the Massaki people escapes marriage to a man she reviles. Forced to flee, she mourns the loss of her fiance’ Hopper who disappeared thirteen years ago. Hopper’s life is torn apart when he is kidnapped. His mind and body abused–leaving him with no memory of the past. Now, as captain of the ship Amaya, he finds information about the woman who haunts his dreams. Trapped and injured, Eiko is startled to find Hopper is not dead. His attempt to save her is derailed when some of the same forces who put his kidnapping into place abduct Eiko. Can Hopper, with Amaya, his living ship, their friends and the Blessed Three bring down a dictatorship or die taking a stand for honor and right?

Words of Advice

I get a lot of newsletters from authors and usually I love seeing them and reading what’s going on in favorite authors’ lives. But there are some newsletters that irritate me. These are the ones that you scroll through and, at the end, it says “message clipped, click here to see full message”. This requires me to click and scroll and move to a different website and start scrolling again. Those are the ones that, when I reach the end (finally), I almost always click on that line that says “unsubscribe.”

Yes, they may be amazing and showing me all sorts of books that I might be interested in, but all that clicking and scrolling takes too much of my time. I like a newsletter that is, well, newsy. Tell me about your life. Tell me about your latest book, not every book you’ve ever written. Or about all your friends’ books. Or about every book you’ve read. Just give me one or two – and don’t make me click through to another site. Keep your newsletters short, sweet, and informative. Make them fun to read. I will always come back to one that made me smile.

I really do like going through these newsletters, but don’t make me work for them. And keeping them short and sweet is easier on you too!

Have a good one!

Review: Mele Kalikimaka Murder

MELE KALIKIMAKA MURDER by Aimee Gilchrist

Fiction, Cozy Mystery, Aloha Lagoon Series

4****

Blurb: The only thing that Aloha Lagoon Resort manager Charlotte Conner hates more than her employees working on “island time” is Christmas. It isn’t just the over commercialized tripe, but it’s also the fact that once-upon-a-time her Christmas would-be wedding went up in spectacular flames. Now she has to share the hated Hawaiian holiday with her twin sister (the one responsible for Charlotte’s ruined vows), Alexander Cho (the one currently responsible for destroying Charlotte’s peace of mind and libido), and the body of one very dead assistant. Aloha Lagoon’s police department can’t find anyone else with a better motive for killing Charlotte’s assistant than Charlotte herself, so now it’s up to her, Alex, and her irritatingly ever-present twin to hunt down the real murderer before Charlotte spends her Christmas in a jail cell for a Mele Kalikimurder she didn’t commit. This is one holly-jolly holiday that just might end up deadly!

Thoughts: I enjoyed this book – and I hope there’s going to be a follow-up because I really want to know what happens with Charlie and Alex and Georgie and Martin.

Everything is chaotic at the resort the week before Christmas. There are luaus and parties and games and tons of guests and it’s up to Charlotte (Charlie) the manager to coordinate it all, which she does with lightning efficiency. But when her assistant ends up dead, things start to break down. Then her twin sister Georgie shows up and needs a job. And the assistant manager, Alex, becomes a problem for her emotionally. Charlie can’t afford to get attached. She can’t.
But she does.
As she and Alex and Georgie look into the woman’s death, they discover more than they bargained for. A lot more. Things are not all sunshine and sandy beaches on Kauai.

Definitely recommended.

Review: Head Above Water

HEAD ABOVE WATER by Andrew Grey

Fiction, Contemporary Romance, M/M

4****

Blurb: Cowboy Hazard Wagoner is happy working on the H and L ranch. It’s a great place to live and it’s his home. Hazard will do nothing to jeopardize that, even if he has had his eye on the handsome oldest son, Bryce, for a long time. Bryce Maverick has known he will take over the family ranch practically since the day he was born. Still, he longs for a life outside their small ranching community. But when his father becomes ill, responsibility and duty settle on his shoulders, and it doesn’t help that his younger brother isn’t pulling his weight. The one surprising bright spot is Hazard. Bryce and Hazard seem to realize their attraction at the same time and Bryce needs the support. Taking over the ranch is hard enough, but a severe dry spell threatens to force him to sell his cattle early and could put the entire operation in jeopardy. Finding a new water supply is key. And it’s Hazard who makes a longshot effort that could change everything for the ranch, as well as any future they might have.

Thoughts: Cowboys and romance – what’s not to like? In this one, Hazard works at the H & L ranch, handling the horses and stables. He’s not necessarily in the closet, but because of where he is, he does stay quiet about his preferences. Though he’s not quite as hidden as he thinks. Especially when the owner’s son, Bryce, makes a play. During all the issues that go with operating a ranch, esp. during a drought, Bryce and Hazard grow closer. And when Hazard comes up with a solution for some of their problems, it’s even better. This story comes with a HEA that satisfies.

Review: Soft Serve Sleighing

SOFT SERVE SLEIGHING by Lena Gregory

Fiction, Cozy Mystery

4****

Blurb: With most of Eastern Long Island closed down for a blizzard, Danika Delaney and her friends are holed up in her old fashioned malt shop, the Coffee & Cream Café, with ice cream and hot chocolate. However, their plans to wait out the storm in cozy company are interrupted when a popular YouTuber and her two companions show up at the door—they’ve been trapped by the storm, and Dani generously offers to serve them breakfast. But her generosity isn’t rewarded in kind, as the reviewer then tries to extort money from Dani in exchange for a good review! When the storm finally clears, Dani is happy to have seen the last of them. Or so she thought. Dani and her friends decide to go sleigh riding the morning after the storm clears, but instead of a winter wonderland, they find the extorting YouTuber…dead! To make matters worse, Dani suddenly finds herself accused of the woman’s murder. Intent on restoring her reputation, Dani sets out to prove she didn’t do it. This is one storm she’s not sure she can weather…

Thoughts: I really enjoyed this story. This is part of the “All-Day Café” series. The characters are well-done and continue to develop, but I have to say that Eli is my favorite character. Well, him and Uncle Jimmy. Danika and her friends are once again looking into a murder – and it’s a good think Dani has an alibi. The victim is as nasty as they come and it seems that nobody is sorry she’s gone, plus there are a lot of suspects. I will admit that I pretty much knew who the killer was early on, but that doesn’t mean I didn’t enjoy the read. Danika’s family is great as are her friends. And Jake – the love interest – isn’t bad either.
